Baby It's Cold Outside!!

Most of us are doing our best to stay warm and safe during this amazingly cold weather. I’ve been worried about my plumbing, my car, my dog, and other fairly ordinary things. Then today, someone asked me about my plants. Huh?!

Yes there are some things to know about plant care in exceptionally cold weather. For the most part, it’s pretty simple: keep your plants away from vents if at all possible.; avoid drafts, water less often, etc,  I learned a new one this week: Don’t let your plants touch a window. Apparently windows become so cold that they can burn the leaves of any plant touching them. That’s it. They’re dead – not the whole plant but the leaves involved sustain damage that you don’t want. So take a little inventory and check it out. If you find some close to a window, think about moving them to another spot just until these sub-zero temps are over.

By the way, while I was moving plants away from windows today, I had a chance to take a good look at some my “projects.” Those are plants that I’ve been trying to propogate, train to grow in a certain direction, etc. They are actually getting new growth! I think it’s due to our days slowly getting longer which means this is only the beginning. Stay tuned for updates on my sunroom favorites!
